Parupalli Kashyap won the Austrian Open 2018

The Commonwealth Games winner Parupalli Kashyap outplayed June Wei Cheam of Malaysia at the 25,000 USD Austrian Open 2018 which concluded on February 24.


The second seeded Kashyap defeated Cheam in just 37 minutes with 23-21, 21-14.



In the opening match, the opponents had the close combat till 3-3, from where Kashyap gradually increased the gap from 5-4 to 11-7 to his advantage. However, Cheam caught his opponent at 18-18 and then at 21-21. In the end, the Indian had to save three game points before pocketing the first game.


In the second game, Kashyap grabbed the lead with 3-0 followed by Cheam’s comeback at 4-4. From where, the game was completely in the Indian’s hand who surged towards the break with 6 points advantage with 11-5 and continued his dominance towards the podium with 21-14 in 37 minutes.


Previously in the quarter-finals match, fourth seeded Subhankar Dey retired in the first game, trailing at 1-2 against the Malaysian Jun Hao Leong in the men’s singles event. While another shuttlers, Karan Rajan Rajarajan, Rahul Chittaboina, Sahil Sipani, and M. Kanishg in the earlier rounds.
