Sindhu and Saina summit clash at CWG 2018 finals

The much anticipated match, the summit clash between PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, is finally here. The duo defeated Michelle Li of Canada with 21-18, 21-8 and Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland with 21-14, 18-21, 21-17 respectively in the semi-finals encounter at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast.


Both Sindhu and Saina kept their fight alive and registered their victories over the underdog opponents and set the final hard-fought match between them. Fans now will witness, two brawny Indian badminton women fighting for the gold at in the Women’s Singles final match on Sunday.


Sindhu went on to lead at the half-time with 11-10 in the first game against the Canadian, before extending to 14-11 and then to 19-15. The Indian managed to bounce in the end when the Canadian saved a few points and clinched the game in 22-minutes.


The second game was completely in the control of the Rio Olympics Silver medallist, who cruised to a 11-4 lead at the breather before stretching it to 18-8 and eventually sealed the game in 14 minutes.


Earlier, 2010 CWG winner Saina Nehwal beat the World No. 18 Scottish in the palpitated semi-final contest that last for 65 minutes with three games.


With the slender 5-0 lead, Saina grabbed the early lead before Kirsty eased into the break with a slender 11-8 lead. Coming back, there was no stopping the Indian who raced to a 17-13 lead before closing the game in 21 minutes.


The second game was scripted the same as first. Saina surged to a 4-0 lead and the to 11-3 at the half-time. Saina continued her dominance, but Kirsty came back strongly to level the score at 15-15. The Scottish girl never looked back since then and took the second game in 23 minutes.


In the decider, the Indian cruised with a 7-2 lead, before Kirsty reduced the deficit to trail 7-11 midway. Rebounded Saina never allowed her opponent to settle down and sealed the match in 24 minutes.
