More than 280 shuttlers from 20 cities will participate in the Singapore Open 2018

Badminton World Federation’s registration for the biggest-ever Singapore Open 2018 closed on 5th June and according to the organizer’s policy, more than 280 badminton players from about 20 countries including the likes of powerhouses like China, Japan and Malaysia will play in the tournament. Singapore Open 2018 which will commence from the July 17-22 will be held at the Indoor Stadium.


Some of the biggest names in men’s singles like World No. 10 Lin Dan from China, World No. 7 Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia and World No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi from Japan in women’s singles have given this tournament a miss.


However, this will be a great platform for the young and upcoming players like world No. 35 Huang Yuxiang who lost against Lin Dan at the All-England Open semi-finals, Japan’s world No. 15 Sayaka Takahashi and Malaysia's No. 2 men's singles player Daren Liew who shall be honing their skills against the best players all over the world and test waters as the new entrants in the sport.


It is expected to see around twenty three Singaporean players to compete during the Singapore Open 2018 and play in their home ground. One of them including men’s singles player Loh Kean Yew, who was last seen playing at the Commonwealth Games, Australia shall also be participating.


Loh recently quoted during the interview, “ The Singapore Badminton Open is always a special tournament for every Singapore national player, and we will definitely be motivated to play at our very best in front of our home fans."
