The former World No 1 Indian shuttler, Srikanth Kidambi takes on with the Japanese badminton star Kento Momota at the Indonesian Badminton Open 2018 to join the hustle for the Men’s Singles title, where he lost to Kento Momota 12-21, 21-14, 21-15.

Recently, in the Malaysian tournament, Kidambi lost semi-finals to Momota, and the Indonesian open 2018 has again landed both the rivals on the same court. The Japanese shuttler has defeated Kidambi six-times whereas Kidambi only won three-times out of nine. This is Momota’s 4th consecutive victory over the Indian shuttler. This tournament was a golden opportunity for the 25-year-old shuttler to prove himself.

The match was full of suspense, and initially, it was tough to predict anything. Srikanth had a great start, and he looked focused. He came into action from the initial round itself. This match was not less than an avenge. He enhanced his lead over his opponent and by the mid-time interval, Kidambi was ahead by 17-9. Subsequently, in the next 15 minutes, Srikanth took over his rival by winning the first game 21-12. In the entire match, the Indian shuttler was confident and determined.

Although the second game does not have a great start, Srikanth and Momota were on the same level as 5-5. Momota brings on his magic and leads with 11-9 which later take a thrilling twist in the game.

On the trails of Srikanth, the Japanese shuttler worked on his leads and took full advantage of the opportunity. Kidambi has played some wrong shots and lost his points, giving a chance to Momota to win the second game. He defeated Srikanth by 21-14, which is a huge difference.

The decider game was thrilling as both opponents were at the same level as 1-1. Srikanth was apparently in trouble, and it was significantly vital for him to bring on the aggression on the court and walk on the trails that lead the game. However, Momota led the game by 18-14 and was close to winning. The game was breathtaking, and even after putting immense efforts, Srikanth lost the decider against Kento Momota 21-15.

Along with Kidambi, India also lost in the Women's Singles, where Vaishanavi Jakka was thrown out of the tournament by the Danish shuttler, L Kjaerfeldt. Indian badminton fans are also disappointed as Indian has also lost the Women’s Doubles and the Men’s Doubles.

However, we still have some hope remain as some of the best Indian shuttlers are still in the hustle to bring the trophy home. Let’s hope for the best.
