Jonatan Clinches Gold at the Asian Games 2018

World No. 15 Jonatan Christie clinched gold at the Asian Games 2018 Individual Event overcoming a tough challenge from World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.

 

With the great support from the strident home crowd, the 20-year-old Jonatan beat Chen with 21-18, 20-22, 21-15 in Jakarta, Indonesia to register his fifth win on Tuesday.

 

Jonatan ripped his shirt off in a celebration to the spectator's delight.

 

The Indonesian overcame nerves to edge the first game and faltered in the second before slaying in the decider.

 

In the previous rounds, Christie ousted Japan's Kenta Nishimoto in the semis and created upset when he defeated Chinese star player Shi Yuqi in the opening round.

 

While another Indonesian shuttler, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting settled with bronze after losing to Chou Tien in the semis.

 

Indonesia excelled to their best in the team and individual events accompanied by frenzy crowd; cheers for every rise or fall of shots roars for every smash landing in or out.

 

While in the all-Indonesian Men's Doubles finals, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo outplayed Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto with 13-21, 21-18, 24-22 in 55 minutes.

 

With this Indonesia wins two golds, one silver and one bronze at the Asian Games 2018.

 

While in the Women's Doubles event, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan of China took 70 minutes to get past the great fight against the Japanese duo Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi with 22-20, 22-20.

 

Meanwhile, the top seeds in the Mixed Doubles event Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong of China added another gold in the badminton discipline after defeating Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet of Hong-Kong with 21-8, 21-15.
