Recuperating from an ankle injury, World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen withdraws from the distinguished All England Open badminton championship, which will be held from March 14 to 18 in Birmingham

As quoted the saying by TOI, Viktor Axelsen said, “It's too big a risk for me to play the All England Open. I won't be able to make it in time and be fit. I was told by doctors after surgery that I have to play safe and take care of my body. So it is a big disappointment because I love playing in Birmingham, so it is tough.”

2018 was not so good for the Danish player, who had been in the great stride last year till lifting the Dubai Super Series Finals title besides the Japan Open and the India Open.

After winning the Malaysia Masters earlier this year, the numero uno Viktor retired in the second round of the Indonesia Masters due to an ankle injury. He had to skip the India Open and the European Team Championships as well, after he underwent the surgery.

With Axelsen’s pullout from the event, world no. 11 Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong is likely to get the direct entry into the second round. Meanwhile, the pressure would be a little less for the Indian men’s singles shuttlers - the third seeded Kidambi Srikanth, H.S. Prannoy, and B. Sai Praneeth.

Yet, the tourney is tougher for the Indians who need to sweat blood with the presence of the legends the sixth seeded Lin Dan, the second seeded Lee Chong Wei, and the fifth seeded Son Wan Ho in the prestigious event.
