Indian players made the most of the opportunities at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open, in Delhi with Srikanth Kidambi, Sameer Verma, HS Pranoy, B Sai Praneeth, Parupalli Kashyap, and Subhankar Dey all progressing into the second round of the men’s singles event. Unseeded Indian Subhankar Dey caused the biggest upset of the men’s first round action, has he took out fourth seeded Tommy Sugiarto. And what was even more commendable was that the Indian won the contest in three evenly contested games, and having lost the first one.
Third seeded Srikanth Kidambi went up against Wong Wing Ki Vincent and seemed in control of the tie, having taken the first game. But Vincent came back in a closely fought second but then Srikanth turned the tables in an enthralling third game to take the match in 57 minutes. The final score stood at 21-16 18-21 21-19.

B Sai Praneeth was also given a bit of a run, by compatriot Kartikey Gulshan Kumar. Kartikey took the opening game 24-22, but then Sai Praneeth took control of the match from the second game onwards and sealed it in the decider.

Parupalli Kashyap & HS Prannoy were also taken to three games by their respective opponents, while Rahul Yadav and Ajay Jayaram were amongst those who couldn’t make it into the second round.
