World Championship 2018: Will Sindhu-Okohara Face each other again?

The next BWF World Championship 2018 schedule is revealed, along with the draws of the shuttlers. The prominent Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is drawn against her rival Nozomi Okuhara in the quarterfinals of the World Championship. The tournament will be held in Nanjing, China from July 30th to August 5th 2018.


One of the greatest matches was played between these shuttlers. In the previous year, Sindhu and Nozomi bit the bullet in Glasgow, which was a roller coaster ride of thrill and excitement. The badminton aficionados can still reminisce about the memories of that breath-taking and back-breaking competition.


The second half of the previous season, the World No 8, Okuhara suffered from a knee injury, she also foiled Sindhu in the finals of the Indonesian Open, which took place last week. The Indian shuttler will be ready to upstage her opponent as Sindhu will face Okuhara in BWF World Championship 2018 quarterfinals.


Accordant with the declared draws, Sindhu will take on with Indonesia’s Fitriani Fitriani or Linda Zetxhiri of Bulgaria directly in the second round as she has got a bye. However, in the third round, she will hustle against the Korean Player Sung Ji Hyun.


On the other hand, the champion who won the Commonwealth games twice, bringing silver and bronze, Saina Nehwal will venture against the Olympic champion Carolina Marin and Ratchanok Inthanon of Indonesia. In the third round as well as the quarterfinals, Saina-Carolina will confront each other. Saina also received a bye, therefore in the second round, the London Olympic champion will take on with either of the two players; Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland or Turkish shuttler Aliye Demirbag.


In the men’s singles of the 2018 BWF world championship draws, the silver medallist of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018, Srikanth Kidambi, will hustle against the young Irish shuttler, Nhat Nguyen. He is inclined towards victory, surpassing the first two hurdles. He might play against the 13th seeded, Jonatan Christie of Indonesia. If he succeeds these three matches, he is likely to meet Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, the three-times Olympic silver medallist.


The Indian beast, HS Prannoy will embark on his crusade by playing against Abhinav Monota of Australia and will have to meet with the Chinese shuttler Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen and Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong on his way to the quarterfinals. After which he might venture against Shi Yuqi, the All England Champion.


In the men’s singles, Sai Praneeth will take on with Korean shuttler Son Wan Ho, whereas Sameer Verma will meet Lucas Corvee of France in the inaugural round.


In the men’s doubles, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth will take on against the pair of Daniel Nikolov and Ivan Rusev of Bulgaria. On the other hand, the silver medalists in the Commonwealth games, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will fly in face of the Olympic Bronze medallist pair of Marcus Ellis and Christ Langridge of England.


In the women’s doubles, N Sikki Reddy along with Ashwini Ponnappa will face the Chinese pair of Taipei’s Chiang Kai Hsin and Hung Shih Han.


In the mixed doubles, the CWG bronze medallists, Ashwini and Sikki will join Satwik and Pranaay Jerry Chopra.


There are also some more Indian shuttlers who are competing in the upcoming event. Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok will join with Tarun Kona and Saurabh Sharma in the men’s doubles.


In the women’s doubles, the three pairs, namely; Kuhoo Garg and Ningshi Block Hazarika, Poorvisha Ram and Jakkampudi Meghana and Prajakta Sawant along with Sanyogita Ghorpade will partake.


The pair of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg along with the pair of Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh in the mixed doubles.
